Better late…
I know I’m probably the only “foodie” in the land who has neither read the book nor seen the movie “Julie & Julia”. Okay, okay - I started the book this weekend. I got off my “rump roast” when my local PBS station reminded me just how much I missed Julia. They are airing “Baking with Julia” and “Julia & Jacques: Cooking at Home”; I was thrilled to also find videos online of ”Julia Meets the Masters”.Reading only as far as the lobster scene (that was in all the promos for the movie), I’m not voicing a review, just some impressions. As much as I actually LIKE to cook, and have more than a little experience, you could not pay me enough to try what Julie did!! Perhaps ignorance truly is bliss wink. I have actually HAD aspic with something, and must state that her descriptions are KIND based on my recollections from my youth. And the next time I order pizza, I’m gonna try bacon and jalapeno…

Julia Child’s unmistakable voice is in my head in the bio sections of the book – and I smile each time those pop up. She was one of a kind, and will never be forgotten. Julie does her justice (so far – remember, I’m only a third thru) and shows remarkable ambition, and although at times hysteric determination, I “get” her sense of humor.

Sometime soon, when you’re trying a recipe from here or anywhere on the Internet, or even watching your favorite cooking show, please think of Julia and say a big Thank You – she started it all. And I for one am very grateful.
