Ideas for a Sparkling Wine party
"jerri writes" (slightly edited):

Ok: so if you were going to host a sparkling wine party: with different sweetnesses of sparkling wines, what would you serve for appetizers? Preferably easy to fix, and fix ahead of time things…. easy but still a little classy as this is actually our 30th anniversary party…. his birthday… family and friends…

Presuming that you are looking for “finger foods”, here are some tried and true favorites:You can’t go wrong with Spinach Balls, served with a Mustard Dip. The balls can be made ahead, frozen on sheet trays, then placed in resealable bags and kept in the freezer for up to a month. The homemade dip lasts in the refridge – well covered of course – for a couple weeks. I already know your opinion of the Onion bites from your previous comment – YUM. Last time I made it I notched (a small X with a knife) on one end of each peeled pearl onion and marinated them with the savory ingredients – for an hour would be adequate, but I admit I let it go a week, and they were more than fine! I also used those little Filo cups – assemble the day before the party by sprinkling some grated Gruyere in the bottom, place an onion on top, sprinkle again with cheese. This one is rich, but elegant and extremely good. Think about Shrimp Scampi Dip. Served as a dip, it is delightful – served in hollowed out baguette halves, it is more than decadent. As I mentioned the first time around, you might want to do half with shrimp, half without – depending on your guests. All of these can be prepared ahead and frozen – thaw the day before, and bake just before your guests arrive. With sparkling wines, I always think strawberries – maybe I’ve seen “Pretty Woman” too many times? If you want to boost the flavor on some (I wouldn’t do all – some people are purists!) about an hour before serving, lightly sprinkle with balsamic vinegar. It brings out the natural sweetness, as well as adding a special “zing”. Mango spears, served upright in a pretty glass are beautiful to look at, and “so tasty, too”. A tiny dish with chili powder and salt alongside makes them taste extra special, if any are brave enough to try wink Other than your serving dishes, all you need out is toothpicks and napkins – oh, and a bread knife for the Shrimp Scampi loaf… Have I got you covered?
